Welcome to the ArcticHominid.ca wiki!
This wiki was setup to expediate the planning, preparation, and development of various research projects.
- Continue organization of the Wiki and projects
- Split wiki into personal projects and work projects
- Introduce password protection for work related projects
Arctic Malaise Trap Experiment is intended to utilize low cost, low power electronics on a time delay for malaise traps to deployed in the winter when travelling in the Arctic by snowmobile is possible. As an alternative, a low-tech alternative is also in development.
Solar Panel Test Frame is a minor project intended to determine the real-world actual available power generated for small scale off-grid installations that require less than 1kW of power per 24 hour period.
Dessication Chamber for Berlese Funnel experiment is a planned project to determine if the precise controlled humidity can be used to extract soil arthropod's through soil dessication and the use of artificial light. Rather than Ethanol, Propylene glycol will be used for the preservative medium.
Lichen Growth Logging Experiment is a device the measures the growth rate of lichen.
Leica digital stereo microscope software upgrade
Arctic Insects is the Github repository containing code used for my MSc thesis.
Arctic Insects 2024 is the Github repository containing code used for a paper on insect communities in the Kitikmeot region of Nunavut.
March 12 2024:
- Numerous updates since November.
- Addition of a page to track current progress on delving into DNA Barcoding research data
- Removed several sections in Arctic Malaise Trap page related to low power electronics.
- As an alternative, a low tech solution is being explored. The low power electronics trap is still being developed as well, but will be tested alongside to compare against a low tech solution.
November 10th 2023:
- Re-organization of pages started. Removing 28BYJ-48 stepper motor as testing indicates it isn't up to the task. NEMA 17 will be used instead.
- Troubleshooting issues uploading images/assets.
- Hosting the FreeCAD models and STLs also needs to be setup.
November 6th 2023:
- Began the process of organizing projects. As-is, the information is all over the place. It would make sense to organize based on the logical seperation of principle components. E.g. ESP8266 microcontroller power testing separated from stepper motor power testing, battery testing it's own thing, Raspberry Pi BaseStation it's own page, etc.
- Look into setting up a project management template or other software. I.e. OpenProject or other alternatives like a flat Excel spreadsheet.
November 3rd 2023:
- Added several updates to the ESP8266, stepper motor pages.
- Seperation of the Arctic Malaise Trap experiment into it's individual components: Raspberry Pi Base Station, ESP8266 WiFi microcontrollers, etc
- Creation of an unpublished page for the authors/editors of the Insect Community Composition manuscript for publication in 2024
- Creation of multiple users with access to read/write/edit the wiki
November 1st 2023:
- Updated main page to include a link to the projects page
- Additional information on ESP8266, 28BYJ-48 Stepper motor, and NEMA 17 stepper motor's and testing added to the ESP8266-testing page
- Added the Raspberry Pi BaseStation sub-project
- Added Bill of Materials section to Arctic Malaise Trap Experiment page
